Chandrashila peak is one of the most visited destinations for trekking in India and also one of the most enchanting short treks. It lies in the Garhwal region of Himalayas. On the way you see the pristine meadows, shepherds, wild animals, Himalayan birds and rare species of flours fauna. After trekking for 3.5 kms, you will reach Tungnath temple, the highest Shiva Temple in the world.
On reaching temple, you can prayer and admire its old stone architecture. You can relax at temple and enjoy the beauty of nature. And after trekking 1.5 km you reach your destination, here is Chandrashila peak. Explore this peak and add one more memory in your list.
Tugnath is 3.5 kms from chopta, you can easily trek to Tungnath Temple from chopta.
The Temple is dedicated to Lord shiva and discovered by Adi Shankracharya and now the priest of the temple is local Brahmin.
From Tungnath you can see several and unnamed peaks of the Himalayans range.
Tungnathe is well known for its magnificent and artistic architecture, it is approx 1000 years old. It is also known as one of the Panch Kedar.
You can avoid travelling in Monsoon time because at that time the region is prone to unexpected landslides and road blocks.
Chopta
Chopta is such a beautiful and admirable place, but most of the people do not know yet about this place. It is also called “MINI SWITZERLAND OF UTTRAKHAND” .Chopta is a place where you can easily trek some known & famous treks, and it is the only last place where you can find food & accommodation facility. We can say Chopta is called trekker’s heaven.
During the month of September & October there is very pleasant weather with clear sky, it is the period when people come mostly for trekking. Because of peaceful atmosphere, majestic Himalayan view, great forest, meadows Chopta attract towards Yoga & Meditation Activities.
You can reach Chopta in two different ways from Rishikesh:-
• Rudraprayag, Kund, Ukhimath
• Rudraprayag, Karnprayag, Chamoli, Gopeshwar.
Trekkers use a different route during snowfall period (Deoria Tal - Duggalbitta - Tungnath - Chandrashila). During December to March there is heavy snowfall in chopta, so at this time trek becomes so hard. Tungnath temple and Chandrashila are covered with snow, and looks very beautiful.
If you are skiing lover you must visit between December to March, Snow-covered slopes aren't just to be admired, but to be enjoyed. Chopta is a must visit destination for nature lovers and those who are passionate for trekking. Aah! In a scenic place, waking up in the morning and viewing the red sun coming out of the mountains from your tent and the snow is looks like a diamond, is definitely something you should experience.
